Genf: ILGA-World verlegt ihr Büro von Bruxelles nach Genf – ganz herzlich Willkommen
28.12.2013: Afrika: Pan-Afrika-ILGA-Konferenz in Nairobi im März 2014
Die ILGA, der internationale Dachverband von Lesben, Schwulen, Transgender und Intersex, verlegt den Sitz von ILGA-World von Bruxelles nach Genf. Seit der Gründung von ILGA-Europe gibt es nun eine starke Europa-orientierte Organisation in Bruxelles, wo auch die meisten EU-Organisationen ihren Sitz haben. Die Arbeit von ILGA-World verlagerte sich hin zu Lobbying in internationalen Institutionen in Genf, wo auch der UNO-Menschenrechtsrat seinen Sitz hat.
Im April 2006 fand zum letzten Mal ein ein ILGA-Konferenz in Genf statt. Organisiert von Stephen Barris, der nach 10 Jahren die ILGA vor Kurzem verlassen hat, und von Yves De Matteis (Amnesty Genf, Grossrat Genf). Die Highlights der Konferenz waren:
- Gründung des Trans-Sekretariat der ILGA unter der Leitung von Belissa Andia Perez vom Instituto Runa de Desarrollo y Estudios sobre Género in Lima, Peru. Seit 2013 ist das Trans-Sekretariat nun in Argentinien.
NB: Das ILGA-Frauen-Sekretariat ist in Kenia. Treffen mit Rhoda Awino. - Dem „Erwachen“ Afrikas. Eine grosse Teilnahme von meist jungen Organisationen aus vielen Afrikanischen Ländern.

ILGA to move its operations to Geneva in Spring 2014
The Executive Board of ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association has decided to move ILGA’s operations from Brussels to Geneva as from Spring 2014.
This historic step will allow ILGA to increase and improve its advocacy work at the United Nations, by making more extensive use of its consultative status with the UN ECOSOC Council and by adding new forces to the staff already based in Geneva in rue de la Navigation on the premises of Dialogai, for the benefit of all its member organizations and the global LGBTI movement.
Gloria Careaga, ILGA Co-Secretary General said: “Moving to Geneva is very exciting, for ILGA and its membership being closer to the UNHRC will bring much more opportunities to understand better the international dynamics within intergovernmental negotiations, but mainly will indeed bring our membership the opportunity to be much more active in the UNHRC work”.
Azusa Yamashita, ILGA Co-Secretary General said: “More ILGA members have been engaged in and are interested in advocacy work at the UN than ever. ILGA has been providing them with assistance. I believe having our operations in Geneva will help ILGA and our members work more effectively and have positive impact on the international LGBTI movement.”
